The trick is simple:
USE GOOD HERO COMBINATIONS TO COVER FOR WEAKNESSES!
What do I mean by that? Well,
Every hero has weaknesses, some more than others, but still, everyone's got a weak spot. Exploiting weak spots is a good way to win PVP, so if you are the one being attacked, you want as little weaknesses as possible, right?
So patch them up!
Ignatius is too squishy.... add Hyacinth!
Alash will get run over my Achilles, well, counter fire with fire! Achilles is squishy, use a three-star archer or other good-damaging hero to kill enemy Achilleses that will rip Alash.
Gilles de Rais has limited tanking ability... Hyacinth to the rescue!
etc.
If you find you have a good defensive rally, it means you are probably good at strategy.
And the rule above doesn't just apply to defense. I attribute it to my decent/good PVP skills, using good combos to wreck the enemy.
I'll never understand, why do some people want to build defensive rally. It doesn't make sense in this game.
