Both are highly useful tanks against AOE, and I have received many requests to do a post on this (everyone only sends me email requests, lolwut?).
Both are useful to have in a rally, but useful in different situations.
GDR is good against a solo AOE (e.g. Merlin or Sarky placed alone, GDR will do quite well)
Terim is better on distracting lots of AOE (grouped 3-star archers or musketeers).
